Communion at the Rail

Matthew 26:26-29 and Luke 22:19-20

Matthew 26:26-29

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Luke 22:19-20

And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.

How many of us have become complacent in our participation in the Lord’s Supper? At CUMC we have been sharing this holy meal at least once a month. Is it the same old thing for you? Are you able to say the words in your head as the pastor is speaking them? This week you’re invited to think deeper about communion. We have the opportunity to recall to our hearts and minds the acts of God through Jesus. Take a little time and read the verses around what is written above. Praise God for what he has done.
