What's Lent About?

Psalm 51:1-3

Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

Have you done any dishes yet today? Are you one who washes after each meal? Do you wait to do your dishes at the end of the day? Do your dishes pile up on occasion? Do you share this task at your home or is it your task? Regardless of how quickly we get to cleaning, there are times when our dishes are cleaned quite easily with little effort. Other times we will try soaking, scouring, every additional product, and all the elbow grease and our pans still don’t seem to come clean. Have you thought about sin like this before? Some sins can be quite easy to acknowledge, ask forgiveness for, and be able to move on from. There are some sins that seem to have found the deepest crevice and it feels like we’ve been working to get rid of this sin forever. Because of Christ we have been washed clean. All that God sees when God looks at us is the righteousness of Christ. We acknowledge our transgressions and live into the new life we have in Christ Jesus.
