Shalom – Rev. Tai Courtemanche – Isaiah 9:6-7

Shalom. God’s perfect and most complete peace. This is a peace that surpasses all understanding. Peace, as we have come to understand it, incomplete; momentary; and often contrasted with conflict. Shalom is a peace that can quiet even the most distraught of souls. You see, peace can bring happiness, though happiness is fleeting; Shalom brings joy, and joy has roots that run deep. With peace can come a fear of loosing it; but Shalom is complemented by love and calmness, casting aside all fear for the unknown future. The angels that appeared to the shepherds that night declared God’s shalom to His people. “I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people…” and with a company of heavenly hosts, praise to God erupted “…Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.” With the announcement of Jesus’ birth to the shepherds came a declaration of God’s Shalom to this world.
