Its Going to be a Party – Rev. Gary Hilton – Revelation 7:9-17

The book of Revelation is not an easy read. The symbolism alone is enough to confuse most people and scholars even sit in different camps in interpreting the content of this book. And yet, there are simple truths that shine through, one of which Pastor Gary leads us through this week. In this particular passage, we find a scene in heaven where a great multitude are before God’s throne, robed in white and holding palm branches, “cry out in a loud voice,” worshiping God. John is asked in this vision if he knows who these people are, which he does not, and is explained that these are those “who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” These are people from every nation, who have gone through great suffering, who find their life in Christ, and now we see them in this scene of celebration and worship in God’s presence. The essential truth from this passage; God’s promise extends far beyond the troubles and suffering we see everyday. We are presented a glimpse of that promise through this Revelation given to John and through that glimpse a renewed strength to work to see God’s kingdom realized amongst us, today.
