Somethings I think, I think...

Unmasked

This week we again have the privilege to come to The Lord’s Table.  We will serve communion at all four worship services this weekend, May 1 & 2.  We began this year to serve communion on the first weekend of each and every month.  We thought that in these times of pandemic, upheaval, and fast changes in our world, coming to The Lord’s Table more often would help ground us in our faith.

We could have said that because communion is harder to serve during a pandemic, let’s have it less.  But once we learned how to place the bread and juice in sealed containers, it really transformed our whole time at the table.  Now we take more time with communion. People still get to walk forward, which we believe is an important part of the experience, and we all partake together which is meaningful.

I also like that once we have the bread and juice in their sealed containers we have to “unmask” ourselves.  Which if we spend some time really thinking about it, if we wish to be forgiven by Jesus, we must unmask our sins to Him. I think there is a whole sermon in there, so look for that in June.

I also like opening the containers that holds the bread of life, the body of Christ.  It is as if we are opening a gift.  Which it truly is a gift for us given by God through the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  I know that it is sealed against spreading the virus, but I like to think of it wrapped as a Christmas or Birthday present.  We get to open the gift of life!

So come this weekend and share in the meal.  If you cannot make it this weekend you will not have to wait long because the bread and cup will be served the first weekend of next month, and the month after that.  Also, with the bread and cup sealed you have the opportunity to take them to someone at home or in a facility.

See you at the table where we will be unmasked before Jesus and open the greatest gift of all.
And remember to listen for the “clicking” sound!  More on that later …
