Holy Week

John 13:2-5

“The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”

I know someone who actively looks for ways to help serve others when she is having a hard day. When most of us retreat into ourselves, go for comfort food, and binge watch whatever we can find, this woman gives the example of Jesus. Jesus is face to face with the one who will betray him which will lead to his death. Instead of wallowing or complaining he serves. As Jesus washes the feet of his disciples some resist this kindness and care. Then they all receive this act of love. I wonder if this act of service didn’t only act as an example for all who have come after him but also allowed his focus to move away from his impending death and focus on those he loved. I wonder if we might take his lead and when we find ourselves overwhelmed we might find an opportunity to serve with kindness to someone who is in need.
