Communion at the Rail

Acts 2:46-47

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.

We call Communion the Holy Meal, the Lord’s Supper, Eucharist (Thanksgiving). We share in the Great Thanksgiving. Our hymnals have several versions of the Great Thanksgiving that we can use at different seasons of the church year. The Great Thanksgiving is a retelling of the salvation story and God’s goodness. Here in Acts it says that the Christ followers broke bread and ate together every day. Two things to think about: this is not something we do alone and we need to recognize the attitude we bring to it. We need to eat and break bread together and speak about God with one another. Are you coming with a “glad and sincere heart?” As we look ahead to the Lord’s Supper this coming weekend, consider who you are coming to the table.
